Mombasa is Kenya's coastal capital and the gateway to the country's finest beaches. Centuries of trade have left a rich Swahili heritage in the old town — narrow streets, carved doors, Fort Jesus and fresh seafood — while the coastline north and south offers white-sand beaches, coral reefs and calm, warm water.
From Diani and Watamu to Malindi and the Lamu archipelago, the coast is ideal for snorkelling, diving, dhow trips and simply switching off after a safari. Marine parks like Mombasa Marine and Malindi–Watamu protect the reefs and their colourful fish and turtles.

7 Days Amboseli – Tsavo – Mombasa Beach Holiday
A week that starts in canvas boots and ends in bare feet. You begin in Amboseli, photographing elephants against the Kilimanjaro skyline. Then Tsavo — Kenya's largest park — where red-dusted elephants wallow in Mzima Springs and hippos snort underwater through a glass viewing chamber. By day five, the Land Cruiser pulls into Mombasa and you swap the safari roof hatch for a beach lounger. Two days of Indian Ocean coast — white sand at Bamburi, a morning snorkelling trip over the coral gardens of Mombasa Marine Park, fresh grilled fish and cold Tusker beer as the dhows drift past.
3-Day Tsavo East & West Safari — From Mombasa
Tsavo is Kenya's largest park — 22,000 square kilometres of wild, raw, dusty Africa — and this three-day circuit tackles both sides of it. You start from your Mombasa beach resort, cross into Tsavo East for the red elephants and the Aruba Dam bird spectacle, then push west to Mzima Springs where you watch hippos from an underwater glass chamber and walk the Shetani lava flow. Two nights, three days, and the feeling that you have been somewhere genuinely untamed.
10-Day Grand Kenya Safari — Bush to Beach
This is the one. Ten days from the northern deserts of Samburu to the white sand of Diani Beach, crossing seven protected areas and ending with your feet in the Indian Ocean. You track the Special Five in Samburu, sleep above a floodlit waterhole in the Aberdares, photograph flamingos at Nakuru, spend three full days in the Mara, walk among the elephants of Amboseli with Kilimanjaro overhead, duck into Tsavo West for Mzima Springs and Shetani lava, then trade your safari boots for sandals at the coast. No domestic flights. No backtracking. Just a continuous, logical road journey across the full breadth of Kenya — highlands to savannah to coast.
