3-Day Maasai Mara Classic Safari
Three days in the Mara is the sweet spot — enough time to settle in and let the wildlife reveal itself, not so long you're retracing ground. You leave Nairobi at dawn, cross the Rift Valley, and by lunch you're rolling across the Mara's golden grasslands. Mount Kenya Trek — Sirimon Route to Point Lenana (5 Days)
Mount Kenya — 5,199 metres of ancient volcanic plug straddling the equator — is Africa's second-highest mountain. This five-day trek follows the Sirimon route up one of the mountain's gentler approaches, passing through every vegetation zone: dense montane forest, giant bamboo, heather moorland studded with lobelia, and finally the lunar rock above 4,500 metres. The target is Point Lenana (4,985m), the trekking summit — no ropes, no crampons, just steady walking and a pre-dawn push to arrive at the summit for a sunrise that spills across the jagged peaks of Batian and Nelion. You descend via the Chogoria route, the most beautiful way off the mountain, past tarns and waterfalls, through the Gorges Valley, and out to the high moorland where you'll want to keep looking back.
Mount Longonot & Lake Naivasha — 2 Days of Hiking & Lake Life
Mount Longonot is a dormant volcano that rises 2,776 metres above the Rift Valley floor, its crater a forest-filled bowl nearly two kilometres across. The climb takes about an hour and a half — a steep, dusty trail that switchbacks up the flanks with increasingly staggering views of the valley and Lake Naivasha spread out below. From the rim you can circle the entire crater, peer into the forested maw, and on clear days see all the way to Lake Nakuru. The afternoon belongs to Naivasha: a boat ride past snorting hippos and fish eagles, then a walking safari on Crescent Island where giraffes and zebras graze with the lake shimmering all around you.
Rift Valley Bird Watching Safari — 5 Days, 5 Lakes
The Rift Valley lakes are one of the world's great birding circuits, and this five-day car route connects five of them — Naivasha, Elementaita, Nakuru, Bogoria, and Baringo — in an itinerary that puts you in front of 450-plus species. Amboseli in two days is tight but completely worth it. You leave Nairobi in the morning, arrive for lunch at a lodge with Kilimanjaro watching over you, and spend the afternoon with the park's legendary elephant herds — massive bulls with tusks that scrape the ground, tight-knit family groups moving between the swamps. The next morning you catch sunrise over the mountain — those famous photographs of elephants silhouetted against snow-capped Kibo are shot at this hour — then game-drive your way back to the gate.
